A long weekend in Metz

First of all a presence: that of the majestic and luminous St Etienne Cathedral, in the heart of the Messin country. Overlooking the Moselle, it cries out from every direction for the visitor to discover the city. With its rich 3,000 year history, Metz is to be enjoyed on foot to discover a unique heritage that combines the boldness of the Metz Pompidou Centre to 18th century classicism, as well as the Imperial Quarter and the medieval town. It is this atmosphere and very special light that sometimes give the city a southern air. The surrounding gardens, orchards and vineyards, with their charming villages clinging to hillsides, offer spectacular views of the Lorraine plateau and the Moselle valley.
