GLASS MUSEUM

Glass from every angle! The site of the former Meisenthal glassworks (1711-1969), today a witness to the unusual marriage of memory and modernity, offers visitors the magic of a heritage enriched by the eyes of contemporary designers.

Practical information

Museum in MEISENTHAL, on the theme(s) History, Modern art, Industrial & technological heritage, Popular arts & traditions, awarded with the Label Musée de France museum.
A vaulted cellar, accessible from the courtyard, houses a projection area. On the upper floors, four exhibition rooms present more than 600 heritage and contemporary glass pieces. Nestled under an unusual roof structure, the techniques room reveals the alchemy of glass and the diversity of skills required to shape and decorate it. An adjacent room features the film and exhibition "Meisenthal, fin de chantier", which looks back on the rehabilitation of the site since 2018. On the lower floor, the regional glassworks room provides an overview of the diversity of regional glass and crystal production through the ages and artistic movements (Saint-Louis, Lalique, Baccarat, Daum, etc.). The room dedicated to artistic glass honours the collaborations between artists and virtuoso glassmakers from Meisenthal, from Emile Gallé (who worked in Meisenthal from 1867 to 1894) to the contemporary creators who have been working in the CIAV workshops since 1992. Also to be discovered on site: the Halle Verrière and its programme of concerts, shows and contemporary art exhibitions.
